DESSS is a .NET Core consulting company in Houston. Our .NET Core consulting services in Houston help organizations decide whether to upgrade, migrate, refactor or rebuild their .NET applications, and plan the work so the business keeps running.
The most common request is ASP.NET Core migration services in Houston: moving web applications and services from the Windows-only .NET Framework to modern, cross-platform .NET. Some parts move with little change. Others, such as Web Forms pages and WCF services, need a deliberate redesign.
We also review architecture, performance and security for applications already on .NET Core. When the plan is ready, your developers or our .NET Core development team can carry it out.
Six types of .NET consulting cover most of what Houston teams ask for.
Different parts of a .NET Framework application need different treatment. These are the paths we plan most often.
How hard is it to move ASP.NET MVC to ASP.NET Core? MVC and Web API applications usually migrate with moderate effort. Controllers and views carry over in shape, while startup, configuration, dependency injection and middleware are rewritten the ASP.NET Core way.
Can Web Forms move to ASP.NET Core? Not directly. Web Forms is not part of ASP.NET Core, so pages are redesigned, usually in Blazor or Razor Pages. We prioritize screens by business value and move them in stages.
What happens to WCF services? WCF server support is not part of modern .NET. Services can move to CoreWCF to keep existing clients working, or be redesigned as REST or gRPC APIs when clients can change.
Do we have to rewrite data access? Not always. Entity Framework 6 can run on modern .NET, and many teams move to EF Core later. Stored procedures and ADO.NET code usually carry over with minor changes.
Do we have to migrate everything at once? No. Microsoft supports an incremental approach where a new ASP.NET Core application sits in front of the old one and takes over routes one at a time, with shared session and authentication adapters.
For non-.NET legacy systems, see our FoxPro to .NET migration service.
A migration assessment follows six steps and ends with a plan your team can act on.
These DESSS services help deliver a .NET migration or improvement plan.
Migration advice is only useful if it reflects what it really takes to deliver.
DESSS .NET Core consulting includes migration assessments, ASP.NET Core migration planning, architecture and performance reviews, version upgrade planning and hosting advice, delivered as a report and roadmap.
It depends on the size of the application and how much Web Forms or WCF it contains. An assessment gives you a realistic estimate, and staged migrations let you deliver value along the way.
.NET Framework 4.8.1 is still supported as part of Windows, but it receives no new features. New development, libraries and cloud services increasingly target modern .NET.
Not directly, because Web Forms is not part of ASP.NET Core. Pages are redesigned, usually in Blazor or Razor Pages, while business logic is extracted and reused.
They can move to CoreWCF to keep existing clients working, or be redesigned as REST or gRPC APIs. We recommend the path based on who calls each service.
.NET 8 is a long-term support release that reaches end of support in November 2026. Applications on .NET 8 should plan a move to .NET 10, the current long-term support release.
