Top OData Protocol REST API Consulting company

OData Protocol Solutions Company

Microsoft’s newest version of the Open Data Protocol (OData) is something both developers and IT managers must inspect.

OData, short for Open Data Protocol, defines a protocol for analyzing and updating of data utilizing existing Web protocols. OData is a REST-based protocol for querying and modernizing data and is built on standardized technologies such as HTTP, Atom/XML, and JSON. It is different from other REST-based web services in that it offers a constant way to describe both the data and the data model.

In May 2012, companies including Citrix, IBM, Microsoft, Progress Software, SAP AG, and WSO2 submitted a proposal to OASIS to begin the formal standardization process for OData. Many Microsoft products and services support OData, including Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, and Microsoft Dynamics CRM. OData V4.0 was officially approved as a new OASIS standard in March 2014 and was submitted by the OASIS Open Data Protocol members for a 30-day public review.

OData (Open Data Protocol) is an OASIS open industry standard covering building and consuming RESTful APIs. The standard was initially created by Microsoft, and the committee is now chaired by a Microsoft and an SAP employee.

OData permits you to import data from ResearchPoint into other programs like Microsoft Excel and Tableau conducive to consume, share, and operate the data in pivot tables, power views, and consoles. OData is available from any request in the system.

You can share dashboards and charts created with OData with any user, regardless of their Blackbaud permissions. However, because users must enter their Black baud credentials when they consume the data, any data refreshes respect the user's security permissions.

An extra advantage comes from the fact that OData has a standard that permits a clear understanding of the data due to the metadata from the feed. Behind the scenes, we send OData requests to a web server which has the OData feed through HTTP calls using the protocol for OData.

OData is a significant interoperation surface for Azure and O365 cloud services, but also for any other compatibility with other Services. OData is ODBC for the web. OData delivers HTTP/REST based common conventions for probing and modernizing of data sources on the web. International standardization is just one step in a long trip to opening up access to data that exist in storage tower today and bringing more data to our cloud.

Features:

  •     The Open Data Protocol (OData) is a protocol to request data through a query string.
  •     The Open Data Protocol (OData) is a protocol to access data on the web. It offers a uniform way to query and manipulate data sets through CRUD operations.
  •     OData Published as an ISO Standard.
  •     Already an OASIS Standard, ISO Standardization is an important step forward as it makes the OData protocol available to more government agencies requiring ISO standardization.
  •     Open protocol to allow the creation and consumption of queryable and interoperable RESTful APIs in a simple and standard way Architecture.
  •     Clients can use this service document to navigate the model in a hypermedia-driven fashion for comfort.
  •     The service document lists all entity sets, functions and singletons that can be saved.
  •     Vocabularies that take more meaning and extra information to enable richer client experience.
  •     The protocol supports the description of data models and the editing and querying of data according to those models.

This popular software supports harvesting data through this protocol and refreshes those data occasionally. These can be combined with most options defined by the OData technical specifications, allowing for searching, result paging, partial data results to only display certain records or certain fields, raw data harvesting in the best fit format. Therefore, image files can be visualized straight from the service endpoint. Get a quote here.
